Notifications
Open Settings → Connect → Notifications.
The production URL is Notifications.
Notifications control reusable communication templates and automation messages. They can be used for appointment reminders, patient engagement, recalls, birthday messages, portal actions, and workflow communication.
In Dentaltap, Chat means messenger or social communication channels, such as WhatsApp, when those channels are connected for the clinic.
What Notifications control
Notification templates can include:
- SMS text;
- chat message text;
- email subject and body;
- language versions;
- variables;
- filters for when the message applies;
- timing rules for appointment-based messages;
- links or actions such as opening kiosk/self-check-in flows.
Multiple languages
Notifications support language tabs. Create the message in the default clinic language, then add translations for the other clinic languages.
Keep variables consistent across languages. If the English message includes an appointment time or patient link, the translated message should usually include the same variable too.
Custom variables
Use the variables panel while editing a notification to insert dynamic values. Variables can fill patient, clinic, appointment, date, link, and workflow information automatically.
For example, a reminder can insert the patient name, appointment date, appointment time, doctor name, clinic phone, or a patient-facing link. Variables prevent staff from manually editing every message.
Create Notification
- Open Settings → Notifications.
- Click Create Notification or create from the selected notification category.
- Choose the notification context, such as appointments or patient engagement.
- Write the SMS, chat, or email content.
- Insert variables where patient, clinic, appointment, or link data should appear.
- Add translations using language tabs when needed.
- Set filters or timing rules when the notification should only apply to specific records.
- Save the notification.
Integrations
Notifications require connected channels before they can send externally. Review SMS, email, and chat integrations when a message is saved correctly but not sending.
Update Notification
Open the notification, adjust content, languages, variables, filters, timing, or enabled methods, then click Save Changes.
Test important templates after editing. Small wording changes can affect appointment reminders, portal links, and automated patient communication.
Delete Notification
Use the row action menu and choose Delete.
Delete only notifications that should no longer be available. If the clinic may need the message again later, disabling or editing may be safer than removal, depending on the workflow.
