Patient Discounts
Configuration links
A discount is different from a payment or refund. It changes the amount billed to the patient; it does not record money received or return money already paid.
Open the patient's discounts
- Open Patients and select the patient.
- In the patient profile, open the Discounts card.
- Review the existing discount rules and their Active or Expired status.
- Use the status filter when you need to find only active or expired rules.
The discount list shows whether a rule is percentage-based or amount-based and whether it has conditions. With Conditions means that the rule is limited to selected groups, doctors, procedures, or templates. No Conditions means that no such filter was selected.
Create Discount
- Click Create Discount.
- Enter a clear Discount Name so the rule is easy to identify later.
- Set the Start Date. Add an End Date when the discount should stop automatically.
- Choose the value type:
- Percent reduces the matching item by a percentage.
- Amount reduces the matching item by a fixed currency value.
- Enter the Value. For a percentage discount, you can also set Max Discount to cap the currency amount that may be reduced.
- Under Applies To, optionally select the groups, doctors, procedures, or templates that qualify for the discount.
- Click Create Discount.
Leave Applies To empty when the rule should have no group, doctor, procedure, or template restrictions. Add only the conditions that the clinic intends to enforce.
How the discount is used on an invoice
When an invoice contains a matching procedure or product, the available patient discount can be applied during invoice creation or editing. The invoice recalculates its subtotal, discount, tax, and total.
Before saving the invoice, confirm:
- the discount is active for the invoice date;
- the percentage or amount is correct;
- any maximum amount is respected;
- the selected procedures, products, doctor, group, or template match the rule;
- the final balance is the amount the patient should actually be charged.
Do not add a second discount manually unless the clinic's billing policy allows it. Check the invoice summary to avoid applying the same concession twice.
Update Discount
Open an existing discount to edit its name, dates, value, maximum amount, or conditions. The changes apply to future invoice calculations that use the rule.
To stop a discount on a known date, set an End Date and save it. The rule then appears as Expired after that date. This preserves the record history.
Delete Discount
Delete a discount only when it was created by mistake or the clinic's policy requires its complete removal.
Before you save
Use a demo or training patient when exploring this form. Confirm the patient, dates, value type, amount, and conditions before saving because a discount can change the total of later invoices.
